| This produce sign alerts us of the current harvest on busy Hwy N--the long gravel lane is a remnant of what was in the not-so-distance-past primarily farmland; turning onto the country lane of Wiese Nursery I slow my car to a respectable crawl, the sound of crunching gravel beneath my wheels slows time a tad, and I relax some. |

| Finally, my craving for a fresh-off-the-vine summer tomato is realized! I snip fresh flat leaf parsley, sage and chives, filling the supplied quart-sized plastic bag 1/2 way for $1.00. I help myself to some corn, red onions, zucchini, tomato's and potato's, weigh and calculate the total due, and make my own change. |

| I love this country-stand way of shopping, and think Joe's way of retailing is refreshing; as the note says below his picture, memorializing his faith in humanity, "As always, self-serve, Joe trusted everyone. :)" Even though Joe is gone, I know I would have liked him. Next time you come across a handmade sign for farm fresh vegetables, do yourself a favor and get some country retail therapy of your own. |
