St. Louis Spring Garden Walk

I'll start this walk with a glimpse of Washington University's Hilltop campus. This picture is facing Graham Chapel and the gargoyle is one of many on its facade.

The campus itself is beautifully landscaped, but today I want to explore some of the neighboring streets. The homes that grace the periphery of Wash U's campus and Forest Park are filled with mature landscaped gardens and an eclectic mix of architecture.

Boxwood's and ornamental maples add a classic nod to this front yard.

The craftsmanship found in each home is remarkable. Just look at the door, with its masonry detail. The delicate branches of the dogwood trees frame the entryway perfectly.

An inviting bench to sit upon as you go through your mail.

This garden building adds stature to the landscape.

Brick wall and ornamental ironwork frame this spring garden in style.

This unusual match-up always makes me smile.

A row of classic boxwood's border the side yard.

With a playful statue.

Love the iron work framing the window, and those shutter dogs on "working" shutters.

Another walled terrace adds privacy.
A sweep of  azaleas wash this yard with lavender .

This hammock looks so inviting! Look at the detail on this detached 3-car garage. I could imagine an art studio in the dormer-ed second floor.

I look at the details of the mature landscape for landscaping inspiration in my own yard.

Details, details and more details. The columns, masonry, two styles of windows, working shutters a frieze and this is the side of the hous

Walkways allow shortcuts mid-block on must streets. A handy feature for those lunch time walks when I've gone too far and need to make up some time.
Even the street signs have their own unique style.

This covered porch is outfitted with plenty of seating. This would be my favorite room of the house.

Two approaches for shade.

Another beautiful side courtyard.

Cherry yellow.

I would love to see the attic upstairs of this home. I wonder if it's filled with family heirlooms or if they  use it for living space. I love attic rooms with their angled roof lines.

The tulip planting is spectacular and one of my favorites.

I hope you enjoyed exploring the streets of this beautiful neighborhood.

I sure enjoyed revisiting them.

Happy Spring!
